Local Lifestyle

During the week, locals enjoy close proximity to the city, making essential trips to town simple. Days off are often spent gathering with friends and family at Reston Town Center. The Town Center’s tall office buildings stand in perfect unison alongside dozens of shops and restaurants, well-known larger brands, and some locally-owned, smaller establishments. Days in the great outdoors are also looked forward to, with dozens of parks close by. One favorite would be Lake Fairfax Park. The 476-acre site is home to the vast 18-acre Lake Fairfax. A number of activities are available including trails, athletic fields, camps, and special events.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

Reston Town Center is without a doubt the central, beating heart of Reston. A number of well-loved restaurants, coffee shops, and wine bars line brick-paved streets and serve as the meeting ground for several occasions, both large and small.

One popular spot for dining within Reston Town Center is PassionFish. Reston residents benefit from their Chesapeake Bay area location, with an abundance of fresh seafood arriving every day. PassionFish celebrates this abundance of seafood with old-fashioned, perfected classics, and newer favorites with an Asian fusion twist. Some of their top sellers include jumbo lump crabcakes, red Thai curry lobster, pan-seared scallops, and sushi rolls.

Another favorite choice would be Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Cooper’s also offers a similar assortment of perfected seafood classics, with other fusion creations. Braised short ribs, carne asada flatbreads, south of the border-style egg rolls, and gnocchi are some of their top sellers. Feel free to stay late; Cooper’s also bottles their own wine, available by the glass, bottle, or flight.

One more option for wine would be Barcelona Wine Bar. This rustic, yet elegant eatery serves Spanish-style tapas alongside an impressive, extensive wine selection, spanning across many pages of the menu.

Things To Do

Days out of the house are often spent at Walker Nature Center. The center often hosts seasonal events and workshops on its trails. Hikers can reward themselves after a long walk at Lake Anne Brew House. Located in the historic Lake Anne Village Center Plaza, this award-winning husband and wife team is much more than a brewery. Their Beer Run Club meets twice a week for a run around the lake, followed by pints and snacks. They also host Work From the Brew House on the first Friday of every month, where patrons are welcomed to bring their laptops and settle in for the best workday ever.

Schools

Reston is largely served by Fairfax County Public Schools. Some of the top choices in this district are:

  • Sunrise Valley Elementary School, kindergarten-6th grade; SVES offers a Coding Buddies program where kindergarten and sixth-grade students pair up to learn coding skills, a necessity for the future
